Black Women Doing the #DMXChallenge Is What You Really Want to See Today

“There was Brenda, LaTisha, Linda, Felicia, Dawn, LeShaun, Ines and Alicia, Teresa, Monica, Sharron…” If you’ve scrolled through Twitter or Instagram recently, you’ve definitely heard the classic DMX song those names originate from featured in countless video montages of black women showing they can literally pull of any hairstyle and color. It’s called the #DMXChallenge.

In the second verse of the 1999 classic “What They Really Want” featuring Sisqo, where DMX name-drops 46 women—yes, FORTY SIX WOMEN—as he raps about no-frills dating style. There was Brenda, LaTisha, Linda, Felicia/Dawn, LeShaun, Ines, and Alicia/
Teresa, Monica, Sharron, Nicki, Lisa, Veronica, Karen, Vicky/Cookie, well, I met her in a ice cream parlor, Tonya, Diane, Lori, and Carla/ Marina, Selena, Katrina, Sabrina About three Kims, LaToya, and Tina.

Look, I can go on, but body count aside, Twitter found a way to spin DMX’s verse into something that celebrates Black women and how creative and versatile they are. In the videos posted by users, women show off their different looks by syncing videos of themselves in their hairstyles to DMX listing all his women, that means 46 mini clips of 46 different hairstyles. How?!?! Why see other people when I can grab a wig and turn into a whole new person?
