Get the foundation right
Now love, if you think that a lighter shade of foundation is going to make you look fairer, you couldn’t be more wrong. Choose a foundation that matches the colour of your skin tone. Unless your skin is heavily scarred or discoloured, pick a sheer to medium coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser. Make sure to blend it well with a foundation brush for a fairytale finish.
Define, don’t tweeze
You can’t tweeze your eyebrows just before applying makeup. You’ll simply end up worrying about how to cover the red patches that’ll follow. Instead, fill them in with brow powder or gel in a colour that is one shade deeper than your natural hair colour. Defining your eyebrows with a brown pencil using a stippling technique will give them a more natural effect. In the end, set the brow hair with an eyebrow wax or strokes of clear mascara.
Highlight just one feature
Whether it is a mehendi or a roka ceremony, we go all out when it comes to makeup. The more enthusiastic ones among us want to put on whatever makeup they have. The more the makeup, the better you stand out in the crowd. Darling, it’s a traditional event, not a Halloween party, okay? Eyeshadows in two distinct colours, bold, glossy lips or a pound of bronzer will make you look like Rakhi Sawant. Go more sophisticated and draw attention to just one feature—nude lips with smoky eyes or minimal eye makeup with deep plum lips—is the way to go. And for heaven’s sake, refrain from matching your makeup with your attire!
Too much blush
The idea of applying the blush is to accentuate your cheekbones without looking like a clown. Smile a little and apply blush in a warm peach tone on the apples of the cheek. Blend the excess back and up towards your temples for a chiselled look. While a powder blush will work well for an oily skin, a cream blush will do wonders to achieve a dewy, natural glow for a normal skin type.
