The wait is over! Hermès Beauty announced last year that they would be introducing skincare and makeup for 2020 and 2021, and today it finally arrived. The new métier launches today with a line of 24 lipsticks entitled “Rouge Hermès” that all have a distinct color story pulled from the brand’s collection of over 76,000 silk and leather shades.
Ten of the lipsticks come in a matte finish, while the remaining 14 have a stain finish similar to Hermès’s signature Kelly calf leather box bag. The colors range from light beiges and tangerine oranges to berry purples and flamingo pinks. The collection also includes Lip Care Balm, Poppy Lip Shine, Universal Lip Pencil, and a Lip Brush.
“Like a silk scarf gracing a woman’s neck that creates radiance and reveals her beauty, for Hermès Beauty, we wanted to rediscover the emotion of color as a fundamental and feminine trait,” explains artistic director of the Hermès women’s universe Bali Barret in a press release. “At Hermès, color is an irrational, intoxicating passion, craftsmanship of nuances, an obsession with striking the right tone, and a language all of its own.”
Beyond the radiant shade options, the lipsticks are packaged in refillable and plastic-free tubes made from the same “permabrass” metal used in the hardware of their famed handbags. “When I think of make-up, I think of materials,” says creative director for Hermès Beauty Jérôme Touron. Touron chose to use the lipstick tubes further to emphasize the importance of color in this product. “When I imagine a shade of lipstick inspired by the color of leather or silk, it is a starting point,” adds Touron. “The material always takes the color in another direction.”

Rouge Hermès is available in select Hermès boutiques and Hermes.com today. The lipsticks are $68 and refills are $42. New seasonal shades will also be added throughout the year for $72 each.
This launch is also just the beginning for Hermès Beauty, which will continue to launch new products every six months, beginning in September.
